Now for the story that nearly made me cry into my marinara… One of Nathan’s good friends had a birthday this week. I asked his mom what I should make for the pregame meal (yes, he's also on the football team). I suggested teriyaki bowls? Burritos? NOPE. She calls me back and says, “Hey Nikki, did you make baked ziti last year? Because my son hasn’t stopped talking about it. He wants THAT.”
Cue my Italian mama heart exploding into confetti.
Can I do baked ziti? In my sleep, child. And yes, my boys were quick to tell him, “All Italians have baked ziti ingredients on hand 24/7.” (True story. Don’t test me.)
Six trays later, our JV players were happily stuffed, and we walked away with a 40–0 win. Nathan (#21) even scored a touchdown AND played nearly every position short of quarterback. He even tried long snapping - though, sshhhh, let’s just say that ball took flight like it had its own escape plan. Whoopsies.
